Rare, Victorian Mourning Bracelet Ribbon, 9ct Gold & Seed Pearl mounted Initial M bracelet, Circa 1880
Rare Victorian Mourning bracelet, with the original grosgrain ribbon and 9ct gold and seed Pearl initial letter M. The bracelet is adjustable with a gold, ornate buckle fitting.
All elements of this bracelet are original and the gold is stamped 9ct (on the reverse of the central piece). The letter measures 13.2 x 17.3mm and is mounted with eleven, natural seed pearls.
The ribbon is slightly frayed, but all in good working order.
Hallmarked: 9ct (denotes 9carat gold).
Victorians wore memorial jewellery as an outward display of what was lost to them and it’s purpose was to keep a beloved one near to the heart and can be thought of as an expression of love more than grief.
