Romantic, Victorian 9ct, 9k, 375 gold enamel, ruby & Pearl heart locket on silver bow brooch, Circa 1880
A stunning, Antique heart and bow brooch with pendant, featuring a silver and blue enamel brooch with a gold, blue enamel, pearl & ruby heart.
The Enamel heart pendant measures 25×18.5mm (including bail), it is decorated in a royal blue enamel (there is evidence of a repair in top right hand corner and base of the heart (not really noticeable when worn)). In the centre of the heart is a pretty, five petaled pearl flower with a tiny ruby centre.
The glazed locket on the reverse holds a plume of hair with gold wire and tiny seed pearls.
Very popular in the Georgian and Victorian era, mourning jewellery often contained a keepsake, a lock of hair or photo of a loved one.

The heart can be detached from the brooch and the two pieces can be worn separately.
MEASUREMENTS: 44.5 x 31.5mm
WEIGHT: 10.9 grams
HALLMARKS: none on the heart (tested to at least 9ct gold) brooch has 900 (french silver) and two other undecipherable marks.
CONDITION: there is evidence of a repair to the enamel – not really noticeable when worn
DATE: Victorian (1837 to 1901)
