A romantic, Victorian 9ct Rose Gold brooch featuring a central swallow / swift in flight, the bird is attached to tendrils of Ivy. This sentimental, sweetheart brooch was most probably given to a loved one from someone departing for war or travel, as the swallow is the first bird that is seen by sailors when returning to land and the Ivy represents eternal love. So the hidden message would be “I will return soon and my love for you is eternal” The brooch is beautifully designed in a lovely rich rose gold and shows intricate detail of the plumage and facial features of the bird and the veining in the leaves. Fully hallmarked as follows: 9. 375. anchor (birmingham assay mark) Z (date letter) together with makers mark S.Bros
(Sydenham Brothers) who worked in both Birmingham and Chester at the turn of the century, 1899-1900.
The brooch has a T-bar and C- clasp fitting. This lovely swallow brooch is beautifully presented in a new black leatherette and velvet box as displayed
