Victorian goldfix Cameo of Hebe with the Eagle of Zeus, brooch (50.5 x 59.5mm), Circa 1840
An early Victorian, large Cameo brooch, depicting Hebe with the Eagle of Zeus. This lovely high relief cameo carving is framed in a rich ‘yellow gold fix’ decorated surround.
A stunning cameo, beautifully carved in fine detail, Hebe is gently holding the eagle of Zeus, she is serene and regal in her flowing robes, at the base of this carving is a row of roses.
In very good antique condition – there are no cracks or damage.
Complete with T-bar & C-clasp fitting.

In Greek mythology, Hebe is the goddess of youth. She is the daughter of Zeus and Hera. Hebe was the cupbearer for the gods and goddesses of Mount Olympus, serving their nectar and ambrosia, until she was married to Herakles. The name Hebe comes from a Greek word meaning “youth” or “prime of life”.
