Fine, Belle Epoque 18ct, 18k, 750 Gold & Platinum, Pearl & Diamond Brooch, Circa 1901
A fine example from the ‘belle epoque’ (beautiful age) era. This exquisite brooch is skillfully made in 18ct gold and platinum, known as a “Giardinetti” (“little gardens”) brooch, it is intricately designed with thirty-six rose-cut diamonds and seventeen sea pearls depicting flowers and foliage in a basket, complete with rectangular platinum frame.
Believed to be french, this fine brooch measures 48.8 x 35.6mm, it is slightly concave.
Complete with overlocking, secure clasp.
Giardinetti brooches
The Italian word “Giardinetti” was used from the late 17th century onwards to describe articles of jewellery designed with an intricate, openwork floral motif, consisting of gemstones mounted to resemble flowers & foliage arranged in vases or baskets.
Not hallmarked: tested as 18carat gold and platinum
