Exquisite, Edwardian, natural, saltwater basra pearl necklace on 14ct gold Diamond and pearl cluster clasp Circa 1901
An exquisite, natural seed pearl necklace, with four rows of tiny pearls, intricately hand strung onto a 14ct gold Diamond and pearl clasp, there are nine decorative pearl stations each featuring a large bead or pearl surrounded with strands of pearls.
Each pearl measures a tiny 1.5mm.
This elegant necklace is graced with a ‘belle epoque’ clasp, featuring four pearls with five tiny rose-cut diamonds, designed as a quatrefoil and measuring 8mm in diameter.
Hallmarked: 585 (denotes 14ct gold)
Tiny natural pearls from India were used extensively in antique Jewellery. Many of the pearls used were from the Pinctada radiata oyster found in the Persian Gulf, the Red seas and Sri Lanka
