Sweet, Edwardian 9ct gold Turquoise & pearl Romantic, lucky wishbone and swallow brooch, Chester, Circa 1913
Antique brooch designed as a wishbone featuring a swallow carrying a branch in its beak, with a Turquoise gemstone and pearl decorated leaf.
There are a total of ten tiny seed pearls decorating the body and the leaf.
Hallmarked: Chester assay mark, 9. 375 (denotes 9ct gold) & date letter N (1913)Complete with T-bar and C-clasp fitting (the pin is base metal, often used in antique brooches for added strength, when worn on outer garments)

This romantic brooch was most likely given to a loved one from some-one departing for war. As the Swallow has the hidden meaning of “I will return to you”, as the swallow is the first bird seen by sailors approaching land.
Pearl symbolises purity and Turquoise represents luck.
