Description
Antique, Victorian graduated Coral beaded necklace, with a central bead measuring 8.5×9.5mm graduating in size to a 4×3.5mm bead, hand strung onto a 9ct gold bolt ring clasp fitting.
Hallmarked: 375 (denotes 9carat gold)
The coral is a lovely deep salmon pink colour, you can see the natural grain in the close up images.
Romans adorned their Children in Coral to protect them from harm. Historically Coral has been a popular choice for Christening presents (early 17th century portraits of children are shown wearing a simple row of coral beads). Coral remained popular throughout the Victorian, Edwardian period.
