Exquisite, Belle Epoque Silver & Gold, Diamond ‘Giardinetti’ Brooch in original box with papers,
A pretty example from the ‘belle epoque’ (beautiful age) era. This exquisite brooch is skilfully made with the diamond flowers in silver & the weaved basket in gold, known as a “Giardinetti” (“little gardens”) brooch.
It is intricately designed with two main flower heads and foliage all mounted with eighty-two, rose-cut & senaille diamonds, displayed in a contrasting gold basket, complimented with an edge of diamonds and matching base – please see images.
Complete with T-bar and C-clasp fitting.
This brooch was presented to a wife of an official of the company who performed the launching of their MV British Kiwi at Smiths Dock yard at Middlesborough on 21st July 1959, (document included together with an old valuation)
The Italian word “Giardinetti” was used from the late 17th century onwards to describe articles of jewellery designed with an intricate, openwork floral motif, consisting of gemstones mounted to resemble flowers & foliage arranged in vases or baskets.
