The first wedding rings recorded were from Ancient Egypt. The Egyptians twisted papyrus grass into a circle, with no beginning or end to symbolize eternity.
The hole in the center of the ring represented a gateway, or door; leading to things and events both known and unknown. To exchange rings signifies never-ending and immortal love.
The tradition to wear the wedding ring on the left hand, ring finger comes from the Romans as they believed that the vein in this finger, referred to as the ‘Vena Amoris’ or the ‘Vein of Love’ was directly connected to the heart.
