Antique, Georgian natural basra seed pearl 3 strand necklace on black dot paste clasp,
An exquisite Antique, Georgian seed pearl necklace with three strands of tiny, natural seed pearls hand strung onto a gold metal, black dot, paste cluster clasp.
The necklace is dainty and measures 13 inches in length, it looks like it was recently restrung as the french bullion (wire terminating the ends) look new.
The pearls are tiny, each measuring approx 1.3mm. The clasp is very pretty, there are six, black dot paste stones mounted in a daisy cluster in a crimped setting, the push-in clasp is thin and takes a bit of practise fastening and unfastening.
Tiny natural pearls from India were used extensively in Georgian Jewellery, they were hand sewn onto a drilled mother of pearl backing and designed into delicate, exquisite pieces of jewellery. Many of the pearls used were from the Pinctada radiata oyster found in the Persian Gulf, the Red seas and Sri Lanka
A rare find this dainty pearl necklace is beautifully presented in a new black leatherette and velvet box as displayed.
